Artist Submission Guidelines

Dear Artist,

Thank you for looking at our site and the work we show. Perhaps you are interested in showing with us. If you are, please read the following guidelines carefully. We are well aware of how difficult it is for an artist to get shown in a gallery. And we want to make this experience as pleasant and professional as possible. Artists and galleries need each other. We respect that relationship.

We realize how much effort and care you put into your work and its presentation.  Though we take on very few artists, we assure you we look at each and every submission carefully. And though the chances are very small we will take on your work, we want to see it. We only ask for your patience as well. Imagine yourself in the roll of gallery owner/director for a moment, busy with the running of a gallery and the presentation of art, arranging shows, working with collectors, etc. Now imagine dozens or hundreds of portfolios crossing your desk every month. Need we say more?

There is no advantage to calling or emailing to speed up the process. We will answer every submission with a brief and polite response. We will not critique work presented, there just isn’t time. But do follow the guidelines below, apply them to every gallery you present your work to. You may be surprised how much better the response to your work is when you follow these simple steps.

What happens if we are interested.

If we are interested in your work, we will contact you by phone, email or mail (as you requested). At this point we will want to arrange to see your work in person. If it is not locally available, we will discuss shipping arrangements. By this point we are very interested in your work, but there is still no guarantee your work will be accepted. We understand the burden and expense of shipping and we will not ask you to ship it unnecessarily. You will be responsible for the cost to get it to us, and if we do not accept your work, we will pay the cost to return it. Also at this time we can discuss commission structure and any questions you have about payment terms etc. We currently do not have written contracts with our artists, but we are certainly not opposed to them if you are more comfortable working that way. When dealing with money, it is always best to have things worked out clearly and on paper.

Response time.

In general, we are very quick to respond to email submissions, within 1 to 2 weeks. Mailed submission will take much longer, 2 to 5 weeks.

Thank you for considering our gallery for your work. We certainly hope you are the next da Vinci or Picasso, and we have the sense to recognize it! So get your photos together and send them today.

Good luck and keep painting. The world needs art!.

Sincerely,

Jay Magidson

Artist and Art requirements:

  • You are a Ready to be Exhibited. Your style must be fully developed and recognizable as uniquely yours.
  • You are a Professional. Please do not be insulted that we have to write this for those who don’t understand. You are able to pack, ship, and handle your art when necessary so that it arrives undamaged - or hire a professional shipper to do it. Your art is properly applied using accepted conservation techniques and is archival. Your work must be shippable and reasonably able to be handled and stored without special technique.

What we ARE looking for:

  • Fresh contemporary art in all media. Emphasis on skill and talent.

What we will consider, but are not actively looking for:

  • Photography
  • Monumental sculpture

What we are NOT looking for:

  • Conceptional art (though we love it, we can’t exhibit it).
  • Anything that is not archival, improperly applied, or perishable.
  • Traditional work: landscape, impressionist, or other work that is easily identified as 19th Century or earlier.
  • Western Traditional or identified as “Southwest Art”
  • Traditional realistic sculpture
  • Traditional landscape, portrait, and architectural photography

Submission Guidelines:

1) Look through our web site thoroughly
Be sure your work is complimentary. For example, if you are a traditional landscape painter, no matter how exceptional your work, this is not the right gallery for you.

2) Have accurate photographs taken of your work.
Digital is the best way. If you are forced to make excuses about the quality of your photographs, hire a professional. This is your work - do it right.

3) Look through your portfolio with a critical eye.
Choose 10 images that represent your work best, then present those.

4) Here are several ways to send us images - In Order of Preference:

    I) E-mail with a link to your web site. Click Here

    • In the Subject, put “Artist Submission”
    • In the Body of the e-mail include the following info
      • Web Address or Link to your web site
      • Contact Information (name, email address, phone, etc.)
      • Optional: A brief description of your art

II) E-mail with 5 jpeg attachments. Click Here

    • In the Subject, put “Artist Submission”
    • In the Body of the e-mail include the following info
      • Web Address if you have one
      • Contact Information (name, email address, phone, etc.)
      • Title, size, medium, year, and other pertinent info about the work sent.
      • Optional: A brief description of your art, and short bio.
    • File attachment requirements:
      • JPEG files only (e.g., picture.jpg or picture.jpeg)
      • Largest dimension 1000 pixels, and no less than 600
      • Please, no larger than 250kb per file,
Larger files will be rejected by the server.
      • Please do not send other types of attachments - they will be blocked by the server.

III) If you must mail your portfolio, use 1st class mail.

    • Our Mailing Address is at the bottom of this page.
    • Include your contact info in the package.
    • Please save your money and use 1st class mail. Fedex, Expressmail, DHL, etc. do not get special attention, they are just more annoying.
    • Good photos (8 x 10) are better than slides
    • Do NOT send original work without prior arrangement - We will refuse delivery. This just costs you unnecessary expense and risk.
    • If you want a response, include a self addressed stamped envelope or e-mail.
    • If you want your portfolio back, include a return envelope with sufficient postage.
