It was the week between Hunter's death and his funeral that I was in my Taos Studio and worked on this Hunter
portrait. Sometimes I think Hunter was actually floating around in the ether, because it came out so wild and contrary to a lot of my work. Acrylic, oil, collage charcoal and whatever else was at
hand. But that is where my feelings were at the time and that is always a good place to work from.
It is a mixed media painting on wood panel, 60 x 48" and one of those truly breakthrough paintings that rarely
happens for me. I have known Hunter for about thirty-six years and that is probably how long it really took to make this painting.
I will always miss Hunter, especially at 4 AM, who else can I call.
